What is ERNiCrMo-4 used for?
It is the Alloy C-276 filler metal, used for welding and overlaying UNS N10276 and comparable nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys in aggressively corrosive service. ESAB names sour natural gas recovery, chemical processing, flue gas scrubbers, bleaching vessels, sulphuric acid coolers, and chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide atmospheres. It carries roughly 16 % chromium, 16 % molybdenum and 3.5 % tungsten.
Is ERNiCrMo-4 the same as Hastelloy C-276?
It is the welding consumable equivalent. Hastelloy is a trade name; the material is UNS N10276, also designated 2.4819, and ERNiCrMo-4 under AWS A5.14 is the bare wire or rod that matches it. ESAB supplies it as OK Autrod NiCrMo-4, OK Tigrod NiCrMo-4 and Exaton Ni56.
What is the difference between Alloy 625 and Alloy C-276?
Chromium and molybdenum are traded against each other. Alloy 625 has about 22 % chromium and 9 % molybdenum plus 3.5 % niobium; C-276 has about 16 % chromium and 16 % molybdenum plus 3.5 % tungsten and no niobium. Chromium resists oxidising attack, molybdenum resists reducing attack — so 625 is stronger in oxidising and high-temperature service, and C-276 in reducing media such as sour gas and acid environments.
Which nickel alloy is best for sour gas service?
C-276, welded with ERNiCrMo-4, is the alloy ESAB names for the recovery of sour natural gas and for components in sour-gas service. Hydrogen sulphide environments are reducing, which is where the 16 % molybdenum of C-276 is strongest, and the nickel base removes the chloride stress corrosion cracking vulnerability that rules austenitic stainless out of the same duty.
When should Alloy 22 be used instead of C-276?
In oxidising chloride-containing environments. ESAB states that UNS N06022 — Alloy 22 — is preferred there, with ERNiCrMo-10 as the matching consumable, supplied as Exaton Ni54. The selection comes back to oxidising versus reducing: C-276 is optimised for reducing conditions, Alloy 22 handles oxidising chlorides better.
Can C-276 filler be used on 9 % nickel steel?
Yes. ESAB lists 9 % nickel steels and similar steels with high notch toughness at low temperature among the parent materials for OK Autrod and OK Tigrod NiCrMo-4, and publishes 175 J at −196 °C for the TIG rod. In practice Alloy 625 is more commonly specified for cryogenic duty on cost grounds; C-276 earns its place where the component sees aggressive chemistry as well as low temperature.
What shielding gas is used for nickel alloy welding?
It depends on the grade and process, and the handbook is specific: M12 for OK Autrod NiCrMo-4, pure argon (I1) for OK Tigrod NiCrMo-4, and I1, I3 or M12 for Exaton Ni56 depending on whether it is run as MIG or TIG. Nickel alloys oxidise readily and the oxide does not self-remove, so gas coverage must extend over the cooling bead and root runs need effective backing.
Who supplies Alloy C-276 welding wire in Abu Dhabi?
POFIS supplies the ESAB OK Autrod, OK Tigrod and Exaton nickel ranges from Abu Dhabi across the UAE and the wider GCC, as an ESAB Authorized Distributor and Service Centre, approved ADNOC vendor and ISO 9001 certified supplier. Send the service chemistry — particularly whether it is oxidising or reducing — and we will confirm the alloy before quoting. Email weldiv@pofis.ae.
