Where it is used

ESAB Cutmaster 70+ applications and industries

  • Hand-held plate cutting up to 30 mm, with 20 mm pierce capacity determining whether a cut can start in the plate or must start from an edge.

Features

ESAB Cutmaster 70+ features and capability

TFT display with glove-friendly control

A bright 10.9 cm (4.3 in) TFT LCD display with a glove-friendly adjustment knob. A plasma operator is wearing gauntlets and a face shield; a control that cannot be used without removing either is a control that gets set once and left.

Normal and grate cutting modes

Switchable between normal and grate cutting. Grate mode keeps the arc alive across the gaps in mesh and expanded metal instead of extinguishing at every strand, which is what makes cutting grating practical rather than infuriating.

SL60 1Torch with trigger safety features

Supplied with the industrial SL60 1Torch, which has 2T/4T function, a safety trigger lock and a double-tap trigger that conserves bottled air. The torch itself is rated 100% duty cycle at 60 A with 165 l/min air flow.

Post-cut air purge

Air continues to flow briefly after the cut, cooling the consumables and expanding their life. Consumable cost is the dominant running cost on a plasma system, so anything that extends tip and electrode life pays back continuously.

Black Series consumables for 60% longer life

Cutmaster Black Series consumables are included, which ESAB state give up to 60% longer life than standard parts.

CNC-ready as standard

A pre-installed 14-pin CPC receptacle and voltage divider provide Start/Stop, OK-to-Move and divided arc voltage at ratios of 20:1, 30:1, 40:1, 50:1 and 80:1. The machine can therefore go onto a CNC table later without a retrofit.

Three-year warranty on the power supply

An industry-leading 3-year warranty on the power supply and 1 year on torch and leads.

Portable and all-weather

Three handles, a lightweight industrial all-weather housing, IP23S rating and 16 kg in a 465 × 200 × 315 mm case. Operating range is −10 °C to +50 °C.

Frequently asked

ESAB Cutmaster 70+ — common questions

How thick can the Cutmaster 70+ cut?

30 mm cut capacity, with 20 mm pierce capacity and 38 mm maximum severance depending on material. The cut capacity is the figure to plan production around; pierce capacity governs whether a cut can be started in the plate rather than from an edge.

What is the difference between pierce capacity and cut capacity?

Cut capacity is the thickness the machine will cut cleanly at a sensible speed from an edge. Pierce capacity is the thickness it can start a hole in from the middle of the plate, and it is always lower — 20 mm against 30 mm here. If your work starts cuts in the middle of plate, pierce capacity is the number that matters.

What air supply does the Cutmaster 70+ need?

6.2 to 8.6 bar (90–125 psi) at 142 to 235 l/min (300–500 scfh) of compressed air. A single or two stage air filter is strongly recommended — clean, dry air is the dominant factor in consumable life, particularly in a humid coastal climate.

Can the Cutmaster 70+ be used on a CNC table?

Yes. It ships with a pre-installed 14-pin CPC receptacle and voltage divider providing Start/Stop, OK-to-Move and divided arc voltage at 20:1, 30:1, 40:1, 50:1 and 80:1 ratios. No retrofit is needed to move it onto a table later.

Can the Cutmaster 70+ run on a generator?

Yes — ESAB recommend a generator of 20 kW or higher. Amperage draw at maximum cut capacity is 21 A, with a recommended 32 A circuit breaker.

Should I buy the Cutmaster 50+ or the 70+?

The 50+ cuts 25 mm with a 16 mm pierce at 60% duty cycle; the 70+ cuts 30 mm with a 20 mm pierce at 50%. Same chassis, same 16 kg, same SL60 torch and same accessories. Choose by the thickness you actually cut — and note the 50+ has the higher duty cycle and needs only a 12 kW generator against 20 kW.

What is grate cutting mode?

A mode that keeps the arc established across the gaps in mesh and expanded metal, rather than extinguishing each time the torch crosses a void. Without it, cutting grating means re-triggering constantly.
