Features
The whole feeder is rated IP54, which ESAB describe as unique in the market for a wire feeder. It protects against dirt and dust, keeps the wire dry and clean, improves feedability and reduces the risk of weld contamination. Wire that has sat in a humid, dusty compartment is a porosity source that no amount of operator skill corrects.
The PreciDrive wire drive system maintains precision wire feeding performance to promote consistent weld quality. Feed instability is a common root cause of porosity and inconsistent bead profile, and it is addressed in the drive rather than in technique.
A key card operator management system that is quick to set up, allowing quick-jobs to be locked down with setting limits. This enforces adherence to the welding procedure specification instead of relying on the operator to respect it — which is what a QA department actually wants from a feeder.
TrueFlow manages shielding gas both at arc starts and during welding, improving quality at starts and decreasing consumption. Gas is a consumable that is rarely metered and often significant, and start-of-arc surge is where much of it is wasted.
Material selection and configuration sit on a TFT screen inside the unit, with a clear external display for everyday operation. Configuration is therefore protected from casual change while day-to-day use stays simple.
Supports the adaptive Pulse MIG process, and the SPEED, THIN and ROOT WeldModes, with which modes are available depending on the power source it is paired with.

The CX (0446600881) adds TrueFlow digital gas flow control and an integrated heater. Both share PreciDrive wire feed, SpoolSafe IP54 protection, RFID panel lock, water cooling and the Euro torch connection. Specify the CX if you want to control gas consumption or are working in conditions where condensation is a risk.
It means the enclosure is protected against dust ingress and water spray from any direction. For the wire compartment that matters directly: wire that has sat in a dusty, humid feeder picks up contamination and moisture, which shows up as porosity in the weld.
